Getting Your Car Ready for School

Wednesday, August 19, 2009
Hello Zazians, Are you kidding me - Summer is almost gone and I don't feel I got the best from the last 3 months. I guess I can only blame myself though.

Well, this is also the time of year for many of us that our college age students (and some high schoolers) are getting ready to make that trek back to their respective establishments of higher learning and the need to get their cars in shape comes to the forefront. I think we can all agree that their cars will likely be neglected for the next several months.

In preparation for these and many roadtrips to come, I suggest a complete and detailed review of the vehicle. There are many Service Pros (SPs) like any of the 50 Merlins 200,000 Mile Shops, Stevens Auto in Geneva, IL, and many others that offer such a comprehensive review of the car. Beyond the standard oil and filters, pay close attention to the brakes, tires (rotation), front (and/or rear) differentials, coolant, fuel system, plugs/wires/ignition and suspension.

One other area I like to pay special attention to is the interior and exterior appearance. Not only does the car start out the school year clean and smelling good but a good coat of wax can really help the car weather the elements since most of these cars will be sitting in open parking lots. A great place to consider for this is DFT Detailing in Cary, IL, Landmark Car Wash in Elgin, IL or any of the eleven Fuller's Car Wash locations in the Chicago suburbs. Of course there are many other great SPs and I would like you consider nominating your favorite SPs and help the community while helping these excellent businesses.

Granted, this level of detail is going to cost some bucks but some preventative care can really save you down the road. Oh - and be sure to update your ZazFile (database) with all that you do for your car and take a couple pictures while that car is nice and clean. :-)

Well that is all for now so please have a safe, fun and to the students, an educational school year.
Thanks
Joel
